Kodo Butoku Renmei was formed in November 2002 by a large group of traditional martial arts associations from England, USA and Austria. Today, the federation has branch directors (shibucho) in USA, UK, Italy, Austria, Portugal, Germany and Switzerland and more than 32,000 members worldwide.
The purpose of forming the federation was unity in numbers, and a mission to promote and preserve the old ways (kodo) of the Japanese and Okinawan martial arts.
Kodo Butoku Renmei stages and endorses numerous international martial arts events throughout the year, and members receive discounts and priority booking.
Membership is open to any traditional martial art group or individual, with classification for master, teacher, assistant teacher, student and administration personnel. The federation can award ranks and titles to its members, and members may apply to test under a highly reputable panel for any level in most arts and styles.

Both Combat and Traditional Karate are available from most good newsagents in the United Kingdom, including WH Smiths, and in some stores throughout the world.
