Den Johnson-sensei rokudan, sixth dan, began training in shotokan karate nearly 35 years ago with students of
Enoeda-sensei. After many years of study, he started teaching his own students and began researching the
history and roots behind the art, which later helped him develop a unique style more akin to karate of old.
Johnson-sensei continued his studies of martial arts by learning small circle jujutsu and, during his time
within the Prison Services, Home Office control and restraint techniques. Johnson-sensei now also holds the
rank of rokudan in jujutsu, as well as in karate. Johnson-sensei has also studied extensively the art of goju-ryu karate.
After many further years of dedication to the martial arts, Johnson-sensei founded denjo goshin-ryu karatejutsu,
which incorporates elements of all of his previous studies. Today, the school is very successful and is a member
of NAKMAS, of which Johnson-sensei is an Executive Technical Officer. As a qualified nurse and kuatsu practitioner,
Johnson-sensei devised and runs NAKMAS's first aid programme.
Throughout the years, Johnson-sensei has contributed to major international martial arts publications and was featured in The Martial Arts Connection
in the mid-1990s. He now lives and teaches in Hampshire, England, and has taught throughout the UK.
